MENTAL HEALTH! IT'S A REAL THING

Tuesday 1st Sep
Why I'm Walking for Mental Health
Mental health is how you think, feel, and handle life. It shapes your mood, your relationships, your decisions, and how you deal with stress.

Good mental health doesn't mean being happy all the time, it means having the resilience to bounce back and the tools to manage what life throws at you. It's as real as physical health, and it needs the same care.

Here's my story.

Where It Started
My journey began in 2020, during Covid. I'd always been overweight but I'd manage to lose an impressive +20kg in five months but it wasn't sustainable, and once lockdown lifted, I wasn't ready for real life. The weight came back!

What Was Really Going On
Underneath it all, I was carrying:

Burnout and fear of failure in my career
Pressure to be the perfect son, shaped by cultural expectation
Emotional eating , mostly processed food and chocolate, to cope with a toxic environment
Poor sleep, which wrecked my mood and decisions

The Real Turning Point
In 2023, I realised this was never about steps, nutrition or training it was about taking control of my environment. That meant learning to say no ;
to going out when I didn't want to,
to pleasing others,
to being disrespected
to a toxic work culture
to constantly giving with nothing back.

A photoshoot that year gave me something unexpected, self-belief! For the first time, I looked in the mirror and thought, "You did that. No one else."

Looking back, I can see clearly what I couldn't then! There was no space to talk about any of it, so it built up and came out in my weight, my choices, my mindset. Lifestyle and career played a part, but the bulk of it was emotional and my choices of foods!

What Changed Everything
A simple morning routine became the foundation for everything else: positive affirmations, a motivation video or playlist, and the gym.

From there, everything shifted. I'm calmer, clearer, and finally becoming the father and husband I once only dreamed of being.

Why I'm Walking
Whether you're in your 30s, 40s, or 50s, you don't have to stay stuck. You can find yourself again. I didn't even know who I was until I started taking care of my mental health.

I'm walking for everyone still carrying what I used to carry. Every step, and every donation, helps make space for that conversation.
