Why I’m Running the London Landmarks Half Marathon for Mental Health UK

Wednesday 1st Jul

Running a half marathon is not just about the miles, the training, or crossing a finish line. For me, this journey is deeply personal. I have chosen to run the London Landmarks Half Marathon in support of Mental Health UK because mental health is something that has had a significant impact on my life and on the lives of people around me.

Mental health is not simply a cause I want to support; it is something I have experienced personally. I have had my own struggles with mental health and understand how difficult and overwhelming it can be. Some days can feel incredibly heavy, and sometimes even the smallest tasks can become battles that no one else sees. Those experiences have shown me just how important support, understanding, and awareness truly are.

Sadly, my reasons for running go beyond my own experiences. I have also lost people because of mental health. Losing someone in this way leaves behind questions, pain, and a sadness that never fully disappears. It reminds us how silent some struggles can be and how important it is that people feel able to reach out for help and know they are not alone.

I have also witnessed people close to me suffer with their mental health. Watching someone you care deeply about struggle can be heartbreaking. You want to take away their pain, fix what they are feeling, and make things easier, but often you realise that simply being there, listening, supporting, and showing love can mean more than you realise.

Mental health affects so many people, directly or indirectly. Behind every statistic is a real person, a family, a friend, a colleague, or someone silently fighting a battle that others may never see. Too many people continue to suffer in silence because of fear, stigma, or feeling that they have nowhere to turn.

That is why I am running.

Every mile I complete will represent strength, hope, and remembrance. I will run for those I have lost, for those still fighting their battles, for those who feel unheard, and for anyone who needs reminding that they matter and that they are never alone.

This half marathon will be physically challenging, but I know it is nothing compared to the challenges people face every day while struggling with their mental health. If my fundraising can help raise awareness, support vital services, or encourage even one person to seek help, then every step, every ache, and every mile will be worth it.

This run is bigger than me. It is for everyone whose life has been touched by mental health.

Thank you to everyone who supports me on this journey. Your encouragement, donations, and kindness will help make a difference, and together we can continue to raise awareness and remind people that mental health matters.

Mental health UK is such an important charity that do amazing work.
