London Landmarks Half Marathon for Mental Health UK

I'm taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon for Mental Health UK!

I want to make a difference to people affected by mental health problems. Every donation, no matter how big or small, brings us one step closer to a world where mental health is treated with the same importance as physical health. Let's turn awareness into action and create a brighter future for all.

Mental Health UK is dedicated to providing essential support and resources to individuals and families affected by mental health challenges. With a focus on collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity, they are at the forefront of driving positive change within the mental health landscape.

On April Sunday 4th April I will be running The London Landmarks half marathon with my bestie Emma! This is my story!

In November 1996, the unthinkable happened. My 16-year-old baby brother, John Jnr, attempted to take his own life and left no note behind. To this day, I am left with unanswered questions and will never know what was going through his mind. Was it a cry for help? We will never know.

John was placed in an induced coma, and two weeks later we were told that he was brain dead. My parents then had to make the devastating decision to switch off his life support. The loss left a traumatic hole in our hearts, and I truly believe the heartbreak contributed to my parents’ early deaths.

Mental health can affect anyone. Throughout my life, I have been fortunate enough to weather the storms that came my way, but many others have not been so lucky.

Fast forward to February 2021, when our friend Tracee took her own life, leaving behind a husband and three children. Once again, we were left asking why. I can never fully understand what was going through her mind at that time, but I hope that by sharing these experiences, someone who is struggling may find the courage to reach out for help.

That is why supporting mental health charities is so important. If sharing this story helps even one person seek support, then it is worth telling.

Please remember: you are not alone. There is help available, and there are people who care. ❤️
