London Landmarks Half Marathon for Mental Health UK
Hi there, and thanks for stopping by. Longtime runner first, time half marathoner and I’m really grateful for the opportunity to run the London Landmarks Half for Mental Health UK.
Like many (and possibly a few of you reading this), my mental health journey started at the height of the pandemic. I entered into the first lockdown with no work or prospects, a long distance relationship and very little knowledge of how to handle my own mental health. I reached the lowest moments of my life, and it’s in those moments that I, with the support of many friends and loved ones around me, sought help for the first time.
I will never forget when, on a run that I very begrudgingly accepted to go on with my flatmates, I decided to take action. It felt like I was dragging my feet through a sea of mud, and all I wanted to do was go back to my room, let that voice in my head fire away. But as I kept going, for what was a very small moment, the mist started to clear from my mind, and I resurfaced enough to understand that I needed help.
It’s been a long and occasionally rocky road, with some incredible highs and occasional dips. I was also very fortunate the last year to come into a job that allows me to afford weekly therapy. But I am aware that not everyone is as fortunate as I am, which is why I am so happy to be supporting Mental Health UK, who do so much work to provide people with the tools and support they need.
So I want to dedicate this run, and all the runs leading up to it, to the people who have supported me through the years, in ways big and small, on my mental health journey. All those who stood by me and showed me I could strive for a healthier outlook, who shared their own journeys and current struggles with me. All those who saw my potential through the anxieties and low points and made me feel loved and valued.
If you know someone who is going through a rough time, or is struggling with their mental health, reach out to them. A single text can make a world of difference.
Thank you for reading this far, and if you have donated to my fundraiser, thank you double. It truly means the world to me and I am very excited to be taking part in the London Landmarks Marathon for Mental Health UK. Do check out their work!
