London Landmarks Half Marathon for Mental Health UK

I have decided to give myself a challenge this year and have signed up for the London half Marathon. If you have known me for a few years, you will know that I had a spot for the London Marathon, but unfortunately Covid put a stop to the race in 2020. The training did however show me that my body was capable of a lot more than I thought. I have since run a number of half marathons, but figured I would tie this one up with a good cause.

So why a Mental Health charity? It would not have been my first choice a year ago, however I have come to see and realise that so much support is needed, particularly for men. The UK, in 2023 recorded 5656 suicides. The largest demographic  within that figure being men aged between 45-49.

It pains me that there are individuals who are in such a state of crisis believe that there is no alternative. That harming themselves, causing pain and injury, whether fatal or otherwise is the best option. This mindset needs to be broken. There simply needs to be more resources to assist those in distress, whether that is a hand, an ear or a shoulder.

The world has made great strides in attempting to remove the stigma of Mental Health. However there still appears to be a barrier that men seem unable to get over. More support needs to be readily available, and I just wish to do my part in that long journey.

I appreciate that times may be difficult financially, but if you're able to, I ask you to donate some money for a good cause.

Mental Health UK is dedicated to providing essential support and resources to individuals and families affected by mental health challenges. With a focus on collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity, they are at the forefront of driving positive change within the mental health landscape.

Even the thought of relaxing in an armchair during the event already gives me a positive mental boost. Although my budget is modest this week, I hope you’ll savor the achievement, and I’m sure knowing that someone else might get a similar boost from the funds raised—just when they need it most—will spur you on.
