GLOW London 2025

GLOW up London with Mental Health UK

On 11 October, I’ll be lighting up London as part of GLOW – a vibrant sponsored walk shining a light on mental health. I’m proud to be supporting Mental Health UK, a charity that provides life-changing support to people across the UK affected by mental health challenges.

With your help, we can turn London’s iconic streets into a celebration of hope, strength, and solidarity. Every donation powers vital services, helplines, and resources — helping to ensure no one faces a mental health problem alone.

Let’s light the way toward a future where mental health is valued and supported. Please donate if you can — and thank you for being part of the movement.

Tanya’s message (why I’m doing this)

Monday 22nd Sep
A message from my friend Tanya:

In the UK, thousands of people die by suicide each year. In 2023 it was the leading cause of death of young people aged 20-34 in England and Wales, and sadly Rachel, my best friend, neighbour and a person that I came to consider as a little sister was one of those people. But she is more than a statistic, she is a rich bank of memories that I will treasure always so we are coming together in her memory and the memory of others like her, and the families and friends that get left behind.

The real tragedy is that Rachel asked for help, she wanted help, but with an overstretched NHS and limited access to funds, she felt that there was no one who could help guide her to the light at the end of the tunnel. She had been on waiting lists for ages, and was at the point where she didnt want to feel like a charity case/burden (her words) by asking her friends, and was embarrassed to admit that she was in such dire need of help. I was shocked to learn that suicide is such a huge issue affecting such a young age group and that so many of us will encounter someone who has experienced the loss of someone to suicide. These young folk are suffering in silence with limited resources to help them so this walk is to raise funds and raise awareness.  Furthermore, an estimated 1 in 4 of us will experience severe mental health struggles at least once in our life.

Please donate, you will be helping to support young folk around the country. One of Mental Health UK's aims is to provide youngsters with the tools to support their mental health and includes face-to-face workshops, courses, training and online support, because evidence shows that providing youngsters with these tools early helps them navigate life's big challenges more easily.

Any pennies thrown in the bucket will be greatly appreciated. Thanks x
