Our Why

Jess: Mental health affects us all in such unique ways. I never fully understood this until the death of my friend Summer. It made me realise that everyone is silently going through their own battles and it’s up to all of us to support and fight for them when no one else will. 

The UK is on its knees when it comes to mental health resources. Long wait times and years without diagnosis have left more and more people in crisis. This perpetual cycle will continue unless we act now. 

For Summer ❤️ The loss is immeasurable, but so is the love you left behind. 

Amelia: Looking after your mental health is one of the biggest acts of kindness you can take for yourself, yet is usually one of the most overlooked. As someone with a chronic pain condition, I find it very important to focus on the link between mental and physical health, and ensuring you look after both; which is why this event is so perfect!

The link goes both ways. You shouldn’t feel guilty for taking a day to focus on your mental health, just the same way you shouldn’t if you feel physically unable to take on a day. Feeling sad or stressed can make you become ill, just as being sick can make you feel upset. I feel like we often separate these things when in reality we should be asking ourselves whether we feel healthy, regardless of how we distinguish that kind of health.

Mental health issues will touch each and every one of us at some point in our lives, whether it’s through friends, family, or within yourself, and whether you’re expecting them or not. Check in with your friends, and remember to look after your body AND your mind because they’re both very important and they work in tandem to keep you happy and healthy!!
