GLOW London 2024

Fundraising for Mental Health UK by walking 20km through London

My story (in very short!)-

I’ve spent many painful and challenging years consumed by anorexia nervosa, obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety and depression. Reaching the point of being detained under section against my will, stuck in hospital admissions in an eating disorder unit for months upon months away from home and my family & friends, on 1:1 supervision with absolutely no dignity. My illnesses robbed me of my health and nearly everything worth living for, taking me to multiple rock bottoms I didn’t think I could or want to survive.

Despite it all, and having already accepted my fate that I’d just never be able to get better, in complete fear and denial I faced up to and accepted intense treatment and therapy (with the support of some amazing healthcare professionals). I eventually managed to make progress and start overcoming things I never thought I’d be able to. Im still taking each day and recovery as it comes, working on myself, picking myself up when I fall instead of just letting myself spiral through lost hope. It’s been a hell of a battle and I’m not where I’d like to be yet, but I’m so far from where I was and that in itself feels like a miracle I’m so grateful for. Thank you to the people who stayed, and came into my life, when I needed it most.

There are so many people out there with their own stories of how mental health illnesses have affected and impacted their lives so negatively. Not just the sufferer, but their family and friends too. Not everyone gets the support from mental health services they so desperately need, or have to wait horribly long waiting times to get it, and this is why charities like this exist. They also challenge stigma, and provide information on what’s going on with things like the mental health act being reformed in this country which is extremely overdue.

This cause is so close to my heart and I wish for every single person going through mental health struggles to get support and resources to help them through the recovery process, so any donation is massively appreciated! We will be walking 20km through London passing lots of landmarks along the way. Thankyou to my wonderful mum who is doing this challenge with me, and has supported me through it all and never given up on me.

Never give up- things CAN get better. Thankyou for reading❤️
