I'm taking on 31 Miles this August for Mental Health UK
Hello, I am Sveta. This August, along with my husband Kashyap, we are taking on 31 Miles each to raise money for Mental Health UK.We are away in India for half of the August but that wouldn’t stop us from walking and raising money for the cause that is very close to my heart.
My best friend took her own life by jumping in front of the train and leaving her then 7 years old son behind in 2013. She couldn’t speak about her depression due to the stigma around mental health in the community.
This had a tremendous impact on my mental well-being too and I too had suppressed talking about it for 10 years. I have a son too and I did not wanted to leave him behind, so I decided to seek help when I was at my rock bottom.
The therapy helped me get clarity. I also started doing string art at that time that really helped me untangle the knots in my mind. I started Untangle My String Art to help others who cannot express through words due to grief or trauma but can still be heard through art. I gave them a medium to switch off for some time, focus in the moment and be present when they do string art.
I also started a charity called CommuniTea- Let’s Brew Conversations in my friend’s memory to break stigma around mental health and talk normally about it just like we have any conversations over a cup of tea.
We are walking 31 miles each throughout the month to help ensure more people can access the mental health support they need, when they need it most.
Every donation, no matter the size, will help Mental Health UK continue providing vital services, information and support to people across the UK.
If you're able to, I'd be so grateful if you could sponsor me. Your support will help keep me motivated throughout the challenge and make a real difference to people's lives.
Thank you so much for your support!
