I’m Running - But why?
Thursday 5th Sep
Mental health is such a huge thing in my life for many reasons
There is no other place to start than my incredible sister - one of many Mental Health professionals who are all absolute hero’s in my eyes as they should be in yours too,
Secondly as a Professional Chef and someone who’s been in hospitality many years, I have seen first hand the affect high stress and pressure environments can have on people. The importance of togetherness in this kind of environment is imperative.
Thirdly I’d be lying if I said my journey was easy and I’d never doubted myself. All the way back to school when for years I was told I wasn’t good enough, all because I couldn’t spell or write very well and my memory was so poor only to be 15 years old and told I was dyslexic, something these are all symptoms of. Even now working in a kitchen when sometimes it just isn’t your day and things go wrong it can be hard to pick up and go again, but together as chefs, that is what we do pick each other up, when they are down.
Finally, I guess tying everything together. Sometimes you see people crying - would you assume that are sad? Probably, but what about the saying “tears of joy”
Maybe you see someone laughing, they could just be “laughing the pain away”
At the end of the day we never know 100% what anyone else is going though.
More than anything
I hope that if by running this half marathon I can start even 1 conversion that may help only 1 person then this whole journey I’m about to begin will be worth every second or sweat and tears I’m sure it will contain.
Thank you all in advance for the support
Love Matthew ❤️
