Helping Others Through the Darkness – In Memory of My Dad

Hi, my name is Lewis, and I’m 15 years old. This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to write, but I’m doing it because I believe something good can come from something so painful.

Not long ago, my dad died by suicide. He was someone who always tried to make others smile—even when he couldn’t find reasons to smile himself. Losing him has changed my life forever. There are no words to explain the pain or the confusion  that comes from something like this.

But I don’t want to stay silent.

I’ve learned that mental health doesn’t always show on the outside. People can look fine and still be struggling inside. I wish more people felt safe talking about their feelings without being judged. I wish my dad had felt like he could open up more. And I wish help was easier to find before it was too late.

That’s why I’m starting this fundraising page. I want to raise money for mental health charities that support people in crisis, help prevent suicide, and give hope to those who feel lost. I want to honor my dad by helping others—because no one should have to go through this alone, whether you're the one struggling or the one left behind.

If you’re able to donate, even a small amount, it would mean the world. If you can't donate, please consider sharing this page or simply checking in on someone you care about.

I’m doing this for my dad. I’m doing this for anyone who feels like giving up. And I’m doing this because I believe we can change things—by talking, by listening, and by being there for each other.

Thank you for reading. Thank you for caring

Such an incredible young man, sharing a brave and inspirational story. As a daughter whose father also succumbed to his mental health, your message was both heartbreaking yet comforting. It’s reassuring to know that others are speaking out and advocating for awareness of this devastating illness. Your dad would be proud of you. I'm so sorry for your loss - I hope you find some peace and comfort in your grief.
