Fundraising To Provide Community Mental Health Teams for Individuals In Mental Health Crisis Awaiting Psychiatric Medical Help

During lockdown, like many others, I struggled—plain and simple. That period of isolation and uncertainty built up over time and eventually brought me to a breaking point.

I remember feeling almost pathetic for not being able to manage my own thoughts. It felt like something was fundamentally wrong with me. As cliché as it may sound, mental health just wasn’t treated with the same urgency or care as physical health.

I was incredibly fortunate to have the unwavering support of my family and friends. Their presence meant the world to me. But even with them by my side, I found myself silently crying out for external help—someone outside my circle, a new voice, someone from the community to simply say, “It’s okay not to be okay.” Sadly, those services were overwhelmed, stretched beyond their limits. No one ever came to check on me, to offer that moment of reassurance.

Still, I consider myself lucky. I had people around me who cared. But not everyone does. For some, a single visit from a community mental health team could be life-changing—just the knowledge that support is out there can be the difference between hope and despair.

Running has become something deeply therapeutic for me, a real source of strength. So, to be able to combine that with raising donations for a cause so close to my heart fills me with passion and purpose.

Physical health is heavily invested in, yet mental health continues to be underfunded and overlooked. But it deserves just as much attention, care, and support. So let’s change that—let’s start conversations, raise awareness, and push for the support systems people truly need.

Lots of Love, Keira x

My Mental Health Journey; What is Crisis Point?

Monday 7th Apr

To me, a crisis point is a disaster that’s been quietly building for far too long—it’s like pouring water into a cracked glass. Eventually, it shatters, and when it does, everything feels impossible, no matter what anyone says or does.

The NHS often talks about mental health, and thankfully, there are systems in place to support people while they wait for medical treatment. One of the most vital services is the Community Mental Health Team visits. These teams—made up of trained mental health professionals—can come to your home, sit with you, talk with you, hold your hand, and simply say: “It’s going to be okay.”

Because of the overwhelming demand and long NHS waiting lists for psychiatric treatment, these visits act as emotional “painkillers”—a temporary but essential lifeline until real treatment can begin.

These home visits are incredible. But the reality is, the services are completely overwhelmed.

Over the past four years during my journey struggling with mental illness, during five separate periods where I hit crisis while waiting for psychiatric help, I’ve only ever had one team come to see me. Just one. But that one visit changed my life. At the time, I wasn’t “Keira”—I felt like a shell of myself. I was hopeless, numb, just existing. But I still remember the way they smiled at me, gave me a cuddle, and treated me like I mattered. In one of my darkest moments, they gave me a glimmer of light—a small spark of strength that helped me hold on until proper treatment arrived.

People like you and me—we’re lucky. We have friends, family, financial support, and people around us who can fill the gaps when these services can’t. But too many people aren’t so lucky. Too many are struggling alone, without the resources or support systems to get them through.

That’s why this matters. That’s why we need to be part of the change.
