The Misunderstanding of Mental Illness

Sunday 14th Apr
I can appreciate that lots of people have similar thoughts, feelings and stories when it comes to mental illness so I’ll keep this brief.

My name is Holly and suffer from OCD.
I’ve developed my knowledge over the last decade on the illness and around how it tends to show up in me on the more challenging days.

Being more familiar with my struggles and the compulsive rituals that tend to follow me around, it’s become very clear that I started experiencing the hauntings of OCD when I was much, much younger.

Unfortunately, just like lots of other mental health illnesses, OCD is categorically misunderstood and very easily misdiagnosed as anxiety and depression when in fact, it’s most definitely not that.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is named one of the top ten disabling disorders by the World Health Organisation.

I’m raising awareness of how it’s stigmatised and interpreted incorrectly.

I support all mental illnesses but this one’s personal to me.

Thank you for reading.
