**Walking for Mental Health: My Personal Journey and Why This 20km Matters**

Thursday 3rd Oct
As I prepare for this 20km walk for Mental Health UK, I can’t help but reflect on my own journey through the ups and downs of mental health:

For me, this isn’t just a walk, but a deeply personal statement of resilience, struggle, healing, but more importantly, my hope for others who are fighting battles that can’t always be seen.

As of the past few years, mental health has been something we often hear about but may not always fully understand—unless we’ve been there ourselves.

I’ve been there. In the depths of anxiety and depression, making no plan for my life because I had never seen myself living past 16. There were days when getting out of bed felt like climbing a mountain, breathing felt like a chore and hope was not something even in my vocabulary.

It’s because of these experiences that I’ve chosen to participate in this 20km walk. I want to support Mental Health UK- an organisation that is dedicated to providing that lifeline for those in need. They work to offer resources, support networks, and education, helping people understand that mental health is just as important as physical health and, that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness!

This walk is important to me because it represents both the journey I’ve been on and the hope I have for the future; a physical manifestation of the mental resilience I’ve had to build over time. But more importantly, for the people who feel like they can’t…for anyone who feels alone in their fight.

Mental health issues can be isolating, and even more so when they’ve been stigmatised for as long as they have. That’s why raising awareness and funds for charities like Mental Health UK is so critical.

They’re helping break down the barriers that keep people silent and suffering. They’re offering hope where it’s needed most, providing access to counseling, peer support, and educational programs that help prevent people from reaching a breaking point.

Support is invaluable-  I felt like I was able to find my footing again. Now, I want to give back.
I want to walk for everyone still struggling in silence. For everyone who feels overwhelmed, for everyone who feels like their mental health is too much to bear. To remind them that they’re not alone.

As I take part, I carry with me the stories of so many others who are facing their own mental health challenges. I carry with me my own story, and the hope that we can break the silence and stigma surrounding mental health, and foster a compassionate world where no one has to fight their battles alone.

Thank you for supporting me, and thank you for supporting the cause!
